The Broadleaf Shrubs category consists of above-ground, woody plants with “typical” flat, broad leaves with prominent veins. The term distinguishes these plants from those with needle-like or blade-like leaves. They are what most homeowners think of when describing landscape shrubs. They can be evergreen or deciduous (keeping their leaves or dropping them in the winter).
Gallon size is the size of the container the plant is currently growing in. When you see 1, 3, or 7 gallon plants, that refers to how many gallons that container can hold. This is an common practice by wholesale nurseries and please be aware that it isn’t exact. A 7 gallon container actually holds 5. 78 gallons of plant root and soil, 3 gallons is less than 2 literal gallons. Note that the larger the gallon size, the larger the rootball and the larger the plant. Actual plant size varies and cannot be consistently updated because plants are pruned and grow constantly.
